Trust Me - La Villita
How I set my fictional murder story in a real place
I have a lot of fun setting Trust Me in a beautiful, historic art district in San Antonio. I wish y’all could walk the cobbled streets of this quaint jewel with me, but next best thing is to give you a tour in pictures. As I walk through La Villita I can visualize all the places where Delaney’s story unfolds. There’s her framing shop, which is a beautiful two-story wood-frame building that faces Nueva Street. It’s currently home to a Texas-made boutique. A scents chip shop becomes Ellie’s Mother Earth Oils and Candles shop. Then there’s the Arneson River Theater where Delaney sits and watches a river boat filled with tourists go by while the crime scene folks process Ellie’s shop. Detective Ramos interviews her there. Later the two sit down for coffee at the tables outside La Villita Café in the Bolivar building that houses the district’s offices upstairs. Visiting these locations before I wrote my story was part of my research process. That way I can provide the authentic details that help readers become immersed in my stories.
